On Saturday 22 August, Loughborough Community Centre (LCC) at the Max Roach Centre in Brixton will celebrate 45 years of serving the local community, and we would be delighted to welcome you to cover this landmark occasion.
LCC was established in the wake of the 1981 Brixton Uprising as a positive community response, a place where children, young people and families could come together to play, learn and thrive. Forty-five years later, that vision remains as relevant as ever.
Our anniversary celebration will bring together generations of local residents, community leaders, creatives, partners and public officials to reflect on Brixton's journey, celebrate the centre's enduring legacy, and recognise the power of community-led action in creating opportunity, belonging and hope. Alongside the celebrations, the day will be filled with family activities, performances, food and opportunities to hear first-hand stories from those whose lives have been shaped by LCC.
At a time when headlines often focus on the challenges facing our communities, this anniversary offers a different story, one of resilience, investment in children and families, and a community asset that has continued to evolve and serve Brixton for nearly half a century.
